The 1934 WLS Family Album:

Arkie

Curator's note: Arkie (Luther Ossenbrink, 1906-1981) was a WLS regular from 1929 to 1959. You can also see him on this site in WLS Family Albums from 1932, 1941 and 1954.

Depicted here is that sterling young woodsman, the Arkansas Woodchopper, "Arkie, to you. We really think it's been some years since Arkie did much actual woodchopping, for he's too busy carving out a place for himself high on the list of radio favorites. With his guitar, his artistic yodeling and his infectious laugh, Arkie is pretty nearly a one-man show. His laugh is dangerous, though, for it's been known to start a whole studio full of folks to laughing, and nearly disrupt the program schedules. Arkie features a wide range of westerm, old-time and comic songs. During recent months he has made many personal appearances throughout the Midwest.
